nearly passed out mid-set and I think I know why

Right so this was a few weeks back. Kids were finally asleep, I'd had a mad day at work, barely sat down, and I thought yeah let's crack on with chest and shoulders. Got about 15 minutes in and I just felt properly grim. Head going a bit swimmy, heart hammering more than it should've been for what I was doing. Had to sit on the mat and just... wait. Honestly I'd had like one cup of tea and half a glass of water the whole day. That was it. I mean I knew I was a bit dehydrated but I didn't think it'd hit me that hard during training. To be fair I wasn't doing anything wild, just some dumbbell work and resistance bands, but my body just said no mate not today. Since then I've been actually making an effort to drink more in the two hours before I train. Not loads, just steady. And I started having a small matcha before my evening sessions as well — just mixed with water, nothing fancy — partly because it settles me after a stressful day and partly because I genuinely feel a bit sharper going into the workout. Whether that's the matcha or just the fact I'm actually hydrated for once I couldn't tell you honestly. The difference has been noticeable though. Sessions feel less like I'm dragging myself through them. Probably obvious to most people but I genuinely didn't clock how much the daytime stuff was affecting my evening training. Dad life does not make this easy but still.

one cup of tea and half a glass of water the whole day before lifting, yeah that'll do it every time

same, even mild dehydration tanks your power output more than most people realise — I can always tell on my HRV when I've not had enough fluids the day before

HRV doesn't lie tbf

dehydration hits the skin barrier too — you literally lose electrolytes through sweat before you've even started if you're already running low

carbs before too, not just water
