ok so I hurt myself being an idiot
Not like seriously hurt, but enough. Pulled something in my shoulder mid-session yesterday because I rushed straight into ring work and yeah. Knew it was gonna happen eventually.
I've been training for years and I still do this. It's not that I don't know better — I genuinely do — it's more that some days you just want to get into it and the warm-up feels like admin. Especially when it's cold and grey out and you just want to move. I think I shaved about ten minutes off what I normally do and paid for it almost immediately, which is annoying because it's such a predictable outcome.
The thing about ring work specifically is that your shoulder has to be so dialled in before you load it. Like the joint needs to know what's happening. When I actually do my full routine — scapular circles, band pull-aparts, some passive hangs, banded external rotation — everything just clicks. Yesterday nothing clicked. It felt fine and then it really didn't.
I'm not gonna be dramatic about it, I'll be fine in a few days. But I'm properly annoyed at myself because this is such a beginner mistake and I know that. Sometimes knowing the right thing and actually doing the right thing are just completely separate events.
Anyway. If you're in a rush before your session — skip a set, not the warm-up. I'm writing this as a reminder to myself more than anything.
