the dryness has hit differently this year and I'm not sure why
I'm not a dermatologist but I've been doing this long enough to notice when something's off, and this October my skin is just... tight in a way it hasn't been before. Not flaky, not red, just that feeling where you cleanse and then immediately regret it because your face feels like it's shrinking.
I've been keeping my routine basically the same — double cleanse, hydrating toner, a couple of serums, then I seal everything with something heavier than I'd use in summer. Classic autumn pivot. But this year the transepidermal water loss thing (your skin just loses moisture to the air faster when it gets cold and the heating kicks in) feels more aggressive than I remember. I've been reaching for my hyaluronic acid more than once a day which I don't normally do, and I've started applying my moisturiser while my face is still slightly damp, which I swear makes a difference even if I can't fully explain the mechanism.
The collagen routine has stayed consistent which I do think helps from the inside — skin feels a bit more bouncy even when it's stressed from the weather, honestly. But the outside still needs a lot of attention right now. I added a facial oil back into my PM routine this week for the first time since spring and I'd forgotten how much it just... calms everything down before bed.
Mind you I live in London so we're getting this weird thing where it's 14 degrees and drizzly outside but the radiators in my flat are absolutely blasting. That indoor-outdoor switch all day is probably not helping. My skin doesn't know what season it's in tbh.
