lightweight SPF finally clicked for me
So I've been guilty of using the same thick moisturiser year-round and wondering why my skin feels congested by June. Took me an embarrassingly long time to connect those dots.
Basically what I've done this year — and it's actually working — is strip the routine right back. Swapped my heavy cream for a lighter gel moisturiser, and honestly that alone made a difference. My skin just... breathes better? Hard to explain but it's less that tight, greasy feeling by midday. The other thing I finally committed to is SPF every single morning, not just on beach days. I know, I know, everyone says this. But I kept buying ones that left a white cast and gave up. Found a tinted fluid SPF this year that sits properly under makeup and doesn't make me look like I've dusted myself in flour, so that's helped.
Nutritionally speaking — and I say this as someone who's genuinely cautious about overclaiming — there is decent evidence that things like vitamin C, omega-3s and good hydration support skin barrier function from the inside too. I've been getting a lot of that from seasonal stuff at the farmers market lately, lots of berries, oily fish on weekends. I also add collagen to my morning smoothie, have done for a while now. I notice it most on my nails if I'm honest, but my skin does feel more settled in general. I'd never say it's the reason, mind.
The main shift though is really just lightening up the products and being more consistent with SPF. Simple as that. Summer skincare doesn't have to be complicated — I think I'd been overcomplicating it for years.
