ok so what do you actually eat before a workout

Right so I've been trying to get back into going to the gym before my placement days and honestly the pre-workout snack thing is doing my head in. Like I don't want to eat a full meal and feel sick on the treadmill but I also can't train on nothing, I've tried that and it's grim. At the minute I'm doing a banana with a spoonful of peanut butter, which sounds dead basic but it genuinely keeps me going for the whole session. Sometimes I'll blend a quick smoothie if I've got 10 mins — oat milk, frozen mango, a bit of matcha powder, that's it. Tbh I think the matcha just wakes me up more than anything, I'm not gonna claim it's doing something mad, it just means I don't feel half asleep on the gym floor at 7am. The thing I can't figure out is timing. I've seen people say eat 30 minutes before, some say an hour, some say 2 hours and I'm like... I do not have 2 hours in the morning, be serious. I usually just eat about 20-25 mins before and it seems fine? But ngl I don't actually know if I'm doing this right. If anyone's got a proper routine that works for them I'd deffo try it cos I'm just winging it rn.

rice cakes with almond butter works well if banana feels too heavy that early

banana and nut butter is genuinely one of the better options for this — quick carbs, a bit of fat to slow the release. I usually go for something similar before a morning run, sometimes just oat cakes with almond butter if I'm short on time.

the oat cakes thing I tried for a bit but they never really did it for me before a run, felt like I needed something with a bit more to it
