pre-workout food is something I've never really figured out

Right so I've been doing a pilates class on Tuesday evenings after work and I keep getting it wrong with what I eat beforehand. Either I eat too much and feel horrible, or I eat nothing and completely fall apart by the end. Had a banana and some peanut butter on a rice cake about an hour before last week and honestly that was the best I've felt going in. Nothing fancy. I think I've been massively overthinking it. The gluten-free thing does make it a bit more fiddly — a lot of the "eat this before training" advice just casually mentions toast or granola bars and I'm like, cheers for that. But rice cakes genuinely do the job. That's proper lovely actually, knowing something that simple works. Mind you I also had a matcha before I left the house which probably helped with the focus side of things. I feel less foggy on it, to be fair, though I couldn't tell you exactly why.

banana and peanut butter before a workout is genuinely hard to beat, I keep coming back to it

the timing matters a lot too — do you eat it right before or give it a full hour?

aye the hour makes a big difference in my experience — any closer and I feel it
